The BCCI convened a six-hour review meeting with Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir to address concerns following India’s 0-3 Test series loss to New Zealand.

BCCI Grills Rohit, Gambhir in Six-Hour Meeting After NZ Loss

Following India’s unexpected 0-3 defeat to New Zealand in the recent Test series, the BCCI conducted an intense six-hour review meeting with key team members, including captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir.

The meeting, led by BCCI secretary Jay Shah and president Roger Binny, covered critical issues in team selection, coaching strategies, and decision-making on the field.

As India prepares for an important tour to Australia, the BCCI is keen on realigning the team to ensure stronger future performances.

Gambhir’s Coaching Approach Under Spotlight

One major focus of the meeting was the coaching style of Gautam Gambhir, who joined the discussion online.

Unlike his predecessor, Rahul Dravid, Gambhir’s approach has introduced new dynamics within the team, reportedly requiring players to adjust.

Sources indicate that although this transition may yield long-term benefits, the adjustment process has been challenging for some players.

While Gambhir’s coaching was not overtly questioned, subtle concerns emerged from certain team management sections regarding the effectiveness of his methods, especially after the series whitewash.

Selection Decisions Criticised

The meeting also scrutinised the selection of players and strategic decisions made during the New Zealand series.

Specific concerns were raised about resting vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah in the crucial third Test and the choice of a rank-turner pitch in Mumbai.

Additionally, the selection of T20 specialist Nitish Reddy and uncapped pacer Harshit Rana, who both have limited first-class experience, sparked debate.

These calls were described as “not unanimous,” hinting at a division within the selection panel.

As the Indian team departs for the Australia tour, the BCCI has outlined clear expectations for rectifying strategic missteps and bolstering team cohesion.

Both Gambhir and Rohit Sharma face pressure to implement changes that will restore India’s form and competitive edge.
