“Being homeless was my normal life at the time”- Damian Priest Opens Up On His Tough Life Before Becoming WWE Superstar

Damian Priest has been a prime example of coming from humble beginnings to rising above as a top-caliber WWE superstar. Priest currently reigns as the World Heavyweight Champion on Monday Night RAW, but there was a time when Priest was unsure of his survival in the hard world.

In an interview with Superluchas.com in 2021, the current World Heavyweight Champion reflected on his challenging journey to becoming an in-ring performer, emphasizing the need for total commitment towards the art.

Priest admitted that for years, he only gave a half-hearted effort to the sport of wrestling, which led to significant struggles, including a period of homelessness and living on the streets. Despite working various odd jobs, including as a bouncer and nightclub manager, Damian almost gave up on his dream of becoming a main event caliber Wrestling star.

“Mine was a long road to wrestling and it wasn’t easy. For me, if you really want to be a wrestler in your life, you have to try one hundred percent. I was fifty percent with wrestling and suffered a lot for many years,” Priest said.

What did Damian Priest have to say about his humble beginnings before becoming a WWE superstar?

The Archer of Infamy shared a pivotal moment when the nightclub owner for who he was working offered him more work and money on the condition that he would give up on his dream to pursue wrestling. Damian Priest surprisingly rejected the offer, realizing that no one else would fight for his dreams than him. This decision marked a turning point, leading Priest to dedicate himself fully to wrestling.

In 2012, he began indulging in physical fitness, exercising and entering a gym for the first time, transforming his life. Priest persevered despite the hardships, including months of homelessness and relying on friends for home and shelter. With determination and support, the Judgment Day member eventually found stability and continued to pursue his wrestling career.

“Being homeless was my normal life at the time, so I was just trying to find a way to eat and find a place to sleep. It wasn’t a long time, but a couple of months went by where I had nowhere to go, and then some friends helped me. I stayed at their houses for a few weeks and so on until I managed to get up, find a job, and rent an apartment, but it was not easy,” the World Heavyweight Champion commented.

After over a decade, Damian Priest now sits at the top of the RAW mountain as the World Heavyweight Champion and is now set to be a part of a main event showdown against Gunther at the upcoming WWE SummerSlam PLE.
