Duckett’s decision comes after a difficult run of form, especially during the recent Ashes tour in Australia where England lost 4-1. He scored just 202 runs in the series at an average of 20.2.

The left-hander announced his withdrawal on March 24 through social media. He said he wants to reset and be fully ready for England’s busy home summer, which begins with a Test series against New Zealand in June.

“I have made the extremely difficult decision to withdraw from the IPL. I have given this a lot of thought and it has not been an easy choice,” Duckett wrote.

He added, “Representing England is something I have dreamed of since I was a child. I want to give everything I can to English cricket, and for that I need to be in the best place physically and mentally.”

Duckett also apologised to the Delhi Capitals management and fans for stepping away after being picked. He said he was truly excited about the chance to play in the IPL.

“I would like to sincerely apologise to everyone at Delhi. I fully understand the planning that goes into building a squad. I am sorry for any disruption,” he said.

Delhi Capitals are yet to name a replacement, but an announcement is expected soon. Their squad already features key players like Axar Patel, Mitchell Starc and Nitish Rana.

Focus on England Duties

Duckett’s move clearly shows his focus on international cricket. After a poor Ashes, he wants to rebuild his game and regain confidence before a crucial season for England.

With England set to play a packed schedule at home, Duckett is aiming to return stronger and secure his place in the Test side.

For Delhi Capitals, the sudden exit means a quick rethink at the top of the order, although Rahul’s arrival already offers stability.
