“Better Than the Pros”: Young Mountain Biker Showcases Wild Skills on Utah Trail

At just 11 years old, Wes Lukens (@wes_sends) proves, yet again, why he’s one to watch out for as he rides the infamous King Kong trail in Utah with professional freerider and YouTuber, Remy Metailler.

“I have ridden with some of the most talented riders around the world, including Jackson Goldstone, but I can’t even explain how it was to follow Weston,” said Metailler about riding with Wes in Utah. “It just did not make sense. The speed, the style, the skills, but also the maturity. The kid is going to retire all of us sooner than we want.”

Wes and his brother Cam are some of the most talented young freeriders in the sport, and if you need more convincing, follow them on Instagram (@triobehindbars) to be consistently blown away by their skill on the bike. If that still isn’t enough, this video of Wes and Remy Metailler riding one of the gnarliest trails in Utah is sure to leave you speechless.

I’ve been following the story and talent of Wes and Cam for a while, and I interviewed both of them last year for ourThe Kids Are Alrightseries to learn more about the two young shredders and what makes them so talented. Since that interview, both Wes and Cam have progressed a ton as riders, both clearly influenced and inspired by the freeride greats – and now they’re riding laps of the gnarliest trail in Utah with one of them.

Tune in and watch as the two tackle some of the wildest and most exposed terrain in Utah, and be on the lookout for Wes as he continues to put on a masterclass of skill and composure that you’d expect from someone three times his age.
