Trying to play it safe, Padikkal went back in his crease and attempted a cut shot. However, the ball did not come onto the bat as expected and instead flew off the edge towards the slip cordon. Yashasvi, who was stationed at slip, was fully alert and showed great presence of mind in the field.

The young Indian opener reacted instantly as he stretched out his hand and pulled off an unbelievable one-handed catch. It was a special effort from Jaiswal, as the ball was traveling fast and gave him almost no time to adjust, yet he managed to provide his team a crucial breakthrough.

The Mumbai camp erupted in cheers as players rushed towards Jaiswal to celebrate the remarkable fielding effort while Kotian got the wicket on his very first delivery of Karnataka’s chase at the MCA Cricket Ground. Well, Padikkal had to walk back to the pavilion after scoring 39 runs from 52 balls.

Mumbai roar back as 84-run partnership ends

It gave Mumbai a huge lift in confidence and shifted the momentum in their favor at a critical point in the quarter-final as the dangerous 84-run partnership for the second wicket between the Karnataka captain and KL Rahul was finally broken.

After Padikkal’s dismissal, the responsibility fell on KL Rahul, who was batting on 60, and Karun Nair, who was on 9. Both batters now had the task of taking Karnataka closer to the target and keeping the innings steady against Mumbai in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2025-26 quarter-final clash.

Yashasvi’s batting struggles continue

Earlier in the match, Yashasvi badly failed with the bat. He managed only 5 runs in the first innings and followed it up with 36 in the second. Even though his batting did not make a big impact, his effort in the field played a key role in changing the momentum for Mumbai.

The left-handed batter was recently overlooked for the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. Well, Karnataka still needs 212 runs to beat Mumbai in the match to book their place in the Ranji Trophy semifinals.
