THE Mexicans are coming!
First, we saw Julian Fernandez become the first world champion in BKB from Mexico.
Now we are welcoming one of the toughest and most colourful Mexican fighters of recent years to our roster.
Alfredo Angulo had 34 pro gloved fights and I don’t remember him taking one backward step in any of them !
He was regarded as one of the hardest hitters in the sport – 21 of his 26 wins were by KO – and he fought the best as well, champions such as ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Erislandy Lara, both still at the top of pro gloved boxing.
Every time Angulo fought he brought action.
His fights with Richard Gutierrez and James Kirkland were two epic battles.
The first round of Kirkland-Angulo was the best round seen anywhere that year. If you don’t believe me, check out Angulo on You Tube.
He was nicknamed ‘Perro’ – or ‘dog’ – because of his ferocious, determined fighting style and would wear a dog collar on his way to the ring.
His future is in the trigon and we are very glad to have him, along with every other fighter on our roster.
Next for us is New York a week on Friday (April 17) and a show that is topped by one of our biggest names, the one and only Lorawnt T ‘Smash’ Nelson.
‘Smash’ puts his middleweight title on the line against Mark Tiffin in what is sure to be an exciting punch up – while it lasts.
Mark brings buckets of old-fashioned Yorkshire grit to the trigon and believes he is one punch away from sporting greatness.
‘Smash’ and Marko Martinjak are vying for top spot in the pound-for-pound rankings.
‘Smash’ stated his case emphatically last year.
Going into 2025, only James Connelly and Samuel Liera had put dents in his record and ‘Smash’ put the record straight.
He outpointed Connelly in a brutal fight and then took out Liera inside a round of their rematch.
He’s some fighter – but you can never rule out a Yorkshireman !
Until next week
