BKFC boss David Feldman claims he had a big fight in mind for Mike Perry before “Platinum” accepted an MMA fight with Nate Diaz.
Most Valuable Promotions turned some heads with the announcement that Diaz vs. Perry will be featured on the undercard of Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano on May 16.
With the fight announcement, many wondered where the relationship between Perry and BKFC stands. Feldman told MMAFighting.com that while the two sides aren’t at odds, he wishes Perry would’ve trusted his plan.
“Honestly we didn’t have much to do with that at all,” Feldman said. “I wish him the best of luck, I really do. These guys are going in there and risking their lives to make money and he’s going to make money and I’m happy for him there. But it wasn’t something that we were involved in, and it didn’t go down the way I wanted it to go down, to be quite frank.
“[Our relationships is] good. I wanted something different. I had something in the works, and they chose to do this instead, because they had the one out on it. They chose to do this instead. I had something really big planned, huge planned for them, and they chose to do this instead.”
Perry figures to be in for a significant payday against Diaz for MVP’s first MMA event. MVP has promoted a slew of notable boxing stars, and co-owner Jake Paul has been adamant about paying MMA fighters what they’re worth.
As far as what Perry might do after his bout with Diaz, a win would certainly boost his stock, but a loss wouldn’t necessarily hurt him given his popularity and reputation for having exciting fights.
