Opening Day is just two weeks away.
ROSTER MOVES:
The following players have been reassigned to Minor League camp –
🔹 RHP Chad Dallas
🔹 RHP Ryan Jennings
🔹 RHP CJ Van Eyk
🔹 C Aaron Parker
🔹 INF Cutter Coffey
Starting with the position players, Parker was drafted in the sixth-round of the 2024 draft. A catcher, he had a solid end to his 2024 season, slashing .235/.380/.519 with five home runs in 100 Single-A plate appearances. However, he slashed just .233/.301/.386 with eight home runs in 276 plate appearances in High-A last season. Despite being a Spring Training invitee, Parker received just eight plate appearances over six games, where he hit two singles and had an 89 wRC+.
The best pitching prospect of the bunch is 2022 fourth-rounder Ryan Jennings. Last season in a relief role, the 26-year-old had a 3.72 ERA and 5.02 FIP in 58 innings pitched between the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats and Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, with a 29.6 K% and 15.5 BB%. The right-handed pitcher struggled in Spring Training, posting a 10.80 ERA and 9.03 FIP in an inning and two-thirds.
Dallas looked to be starting pitching depth in 2024, but missed a bunch of action due to injury, eventually resulting in Tommy John surgery. That means he also missed all of 2025 due to recovering. He pitched just two and two-thirds innings in Spring Training, striking out six of the 10 batters he faced while giving up one earned run. If he can pitch like he did in 2023 (3.65 ERA and 4.08 FIP in 123.1 innings), that’ll be huge for the Blue Jays.
Lastly, Van Eyk was selected in the second-round of the 2020 draft, but after suffering an injury in his first professional season, he required Tommy John surgery. He didn’t pitch at all in 2022, and made just 12 appearances in 2023 before finally returning to full health in 2024, when he had a 5.68 ERA and 4.62 FIP in 95 innings. His numbers weren’t much better last season, authoring a 4.79 ERA and 5.17 FIP in 126 innings pitched over 24 starts in 27 outings. This Spring Training, the 27-year-old had a 10.13 ERA and 7.75 FIP over eight innings of work.
As we get closer to March 27th’s Opening Day, expect there to be more and more roster cuts.
