Powered by a World Series run, the Blue Jays were the 3rd most-searched sports team worldwide in 2025 👀
(HT @boardroom, @Google)
They also happened to be the third-most searched sports team, not just in baseball, but all of sports. That includes soccer, football, cricket, and every other sport. Only two teams in the world, soccer’s Paris Saint-Germain F.C. and S.L. Benfica, had more searches than the Blue Jays.
PSG received the most searches due in large part to winning their first Champions League title in their history, while Benfica hired José Mourinho, one of the most famous managers of the 21st century.
While no other Canadian-based franchise ranked in the top 10 of Google searches, a Canadian led the eighth-most searched team to an NBA championship. Toronto’s own Shai Gilgeous-Alexander not only won the NBA’s most valuable player in 2024-25, but carried the Thunder to its first championship in franchise history. In the finals, they defeated former Toronto Raptors’ power forward, Pascal Siakam and his Indiana Pacers.
The other four teams belong to the Indian Premier League, India’s top cricket league: Those teams are the Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Titans, and Lucknow Super Giants, ranked fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh, respectively.
Let’s hope the Blue Jays can build off such a successful season.
