BMS monitoring tropical wave near Barbados

The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) is closely monitoring a tropical wave currently located in the Central Tropical Atlantic, approximately 1,245 km east of Barbados.

The wave, moving westward at 10-15 mph, is expected to reach the Eastern Caribbean by Monday, September 2nd, 2024.

As of now, there are no watches or warnings in effect for Barbados.

According to BMS forecasts, moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely as the system approaches the region early next week. Localized flash flooding could also be a concern, especially in areas that are already saturated from recent rainfall.

The public is advised to stay updated by following the BMS, Department of Emergency Management (DEM), and Government Information Service (GIS) websites, social media pages, and local news networks for any changes.

Light winds are expected over the weekend, potentially leading to uncomfortable daytime temperatures, while some localized activity may affect western and northwestern districts in the afternoons.

The BMS emphasizes that the intensity of this system remains uncertain as it continues to track across the Atlantic. The next update is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 31st, or sooner if necessary. (BMS)
