The latest Bundesliga away loss at Freiburg extends Borussia Mönchengladbach’s league winless run to seven straight fixtures. Eugen Polanski’s Niederrheiner continue to sink to the nether-regions of the Bundesliga table. At present, with 11 rounds of 2025/26 football left to play, Gladbach are only two points above the promotion-relegation playoff place.
Just as he did last week, Gladbach head coach Eugen Polanski furnished a highly somber press conference. The same problems Polanski lamented last time continue to persist. The 39-year-old had little positive to note. Despite the fact that rumors about replacing Polanski continue to circulate, however, BMG sporting director Rouven Schröder explicitly backed his coach.
Eugen Polanski laments lack of team confidence
“It’s not easy for me to congratulate you, Julian,” Polanski noted when addressing his counterpart Julian Schuster at the post match press conference. “As we’re naturally brutally disappointed to have lost this match here. The fact remains that we did lose the match. That bothers me a great deal.
“We took too long in our offensive actions,” Polanski continued. “We often hesitated before sending crosses into the box. We need to be more determined and purposeful with our actions. Of course, I’d take an ugly win at this point.“
“If I didn’t believe in the lads, I wouldn’t be so disappointed now,” Polanski answered in response to a later question about the training work put in by the coaching staff with the team over the course of the week. “I don’t want to sugarcoat anything. Via good or bad football, we need points.“
“The table looks threatening,” Polanski emphasized at both the press conference and in his post match interview with DAZN. “We’re all capable of doing the arithmetic.“
Schröder calls for calm
“[Eugen] enjoys my full trust,” Polanski’s boss Schröder remarked in the mixed zone. “He’s doing everything he can to get the team straight. I see how he works every day. It’s not just about him, but also the lads putting everything into practice. Everyone has their role to play.
“No one here is in danger of taking this situation lightly,” Schröder continued. “We still have 11 games to play. I’m confident we’ll achieve the goal of remaining in the league. We simply need to cross more and have more confidence in ourselves.“
