Brandon Moreno is just taking it one fight at a time.
Moreno is set to headline UFC Mexico City on Saturday against Lone’er Kavanagh in an intriguing flyweight fight. Kavanagh stepped up on short notice, and although he is unranked, Moreno doesn’t care. Instead, Moreno is just looking to get back into the Octagon and pick up another win.
“No, I’m doing it because in the last fight I had, nothing happened to me,” Moreno said to Sportsnet. “I feel super healthy. Right now, I’m not even thinking about it; I’m just super focused on this fight. I took this fight because first I really wanted to fight again, and it’s always super special to fight in my country.”
As Moreno notes, he’s just glad he’s getting the chance to fight in Mexico, as he doesn’t care about the opponent.
Brandon Moreno is not focusing on the title
Meanwhile, Moreno is also eager to fight to get back into the win column. He’s coming off a stoppage loss to Tatsuro Taira, and Moreno just wants to fight and not worry about getting a title shot with a win.
“I don’t even care. The people, the media, and the fans are more worried about the rankings,” Moreno said. “I know the flyweight division is moving a lot, but I don’t care. I just want to win this fight and be active. That is the thing for me this year, to be active. I want to win this fight and then fight as soon as possible.”
Moreno is currently ranked sixth at flyweight and is coming off the los to Taira. Before that, he had back-to-back wins over Steve Erceg and Amir Albazi. The former flyweight champion lost his belt back in July of 2023 when he dropped a split decision to Alexandre Pantoja.
Do you think Brandon Moreno will beat Lone’er Kavanagh at UFC Mexico City?
