British former world champion RETURNS on Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua

The Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua fight week has further British interest after the addition of a former world champion.

Paul faces former two-time heavyweight world champion, Joshua in an eight-round heavyweight clash in Miami on December 19, live on Netflix.

Paul’s company, Most Valuable Promotions [MVP] announced that three fights will be showcased on December 16 on the same night as the open workouts.

Britain’s former WBA bantamweight world champion, Shannon Courtenay, who signed with MVP in July will feature on this card, which will be staged at the LIV at Fontainebleau Miami Beach.

Courtenay, who won the title when she defeated Ebanie Bridges in 2021, has won two of her last three bouts and will look to build on her March win over Bec Connolly, when she faces Minnesota’s Jessica Radtke Maltez in a six round bantamweight clash.

Unbeaten Brazilian, Luan Medeiros faces Mexico’s Hugo Macias in the headline attraction, while a four-round light flyweight bout between Jocelyn Camarillo and Yazmin Martinez Jimenez rounds off the card.

MVP put on their first ‘Fight Week Showcase’ in New York in July during the open workouts for the trilogy bout between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano.

Paul, fighting for the 13th time as a professional, is at least a 6/1 underdog to defeat Joshua in his toughest test to date.

‘The Problem Child’, who beat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in June, was supposed to face lightweight world champion, Gervonta Davis in an exhibition last month, but the clash was cancelled after Davis was accused of hitting an ex-girlfriend in a civil lawsuit.

Joshua, 36, fights for the first time since a devastating fifth round defeat to Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium last September.

Paul has already vowed to ruin plans for Joshua to face Tyson Fury next year and insists he will lure ’The Gypsy King’ out of retirement for a fight after facing ‘AJ’.

“It’s a massive mistake to look past me,” the 28-year-old said at the first press conference.

“I’m putting a stop to all those plans – don’t book flights or hotels.

“I’m knocking this guy out, becoming the CEO of Matchroom Boxing, changing the plans, and it’s going to be me against Tyson Fury next year.”
