LONG BEACH, Calif. — Mexican contender Bryan Acosta returned to the win column in impressive fashion Saturday night, grinding out a hard-fought 10-round unanimous decision victory over veteran Ronny Rios to claim the WBA Continental Americas Featherweight Championship.

The bout headlined The Contender Series on ProBoxTV from Thunder Studios in Long Beach, California, where fans witnessed an all-action fight between two experienced sluggers who favored offense over defense across ten intense rounds.

Acosta’s Youth and Pressure Prove the Difference

At just 27 years old, Acosta used his nearly 10-year age advantage to control the tempo of the fight. His higher punch output and sharp footwork repeatedly pushed Rios back to the ropes, where the Mexican featherweight was able to outwork and outslug the seasoned contender as the fight progressed.

Rios showed flashes of his trademark toughness and counterpunching ability, but Acosta’s durability and relentless pace proved decisive. The judges scored the bout 98-92, 99-91, and 99-91, awarding Acosta the unanimous decision victory and the regional WBA title.

Rene Tellez Giron Scores Brutal Body-Shot KO

In the co-feature, Mexico’s Rene Tellez Giron captured the WBC Continental Americas Lightweight Championship with a dramatic sixth-round knockout over hard-hitting American contender Maliek Montgomery.

Tellez Giron set the tone early by dropping Montgomery with a powerful left hook in the closing seconds of the first round. Although Montgomery battled back and landed sharp counters throughout the middle rounds, the Mexican slugger continued to apply pressure.

In the final seconds of round six, Tellez Giron landed a crushing left hook to the body, sending Montgomery to the canvas. After witnessing the punishment their fighter had taken, Montgomery’s corner instructed referee Gerard White to stop the bout before the start of round seven.

Leonardo Rubalcava Dominates in Eight-Round Showcase

Rising Mexican super lightweight Leonardo Rubalcava delivered a commanding performance, defeating veteran Juan Antonio Llanes via unanimous decision.

Rubalcava controlled the fight from start to finish, punishing Llanes with heavy body shots and disciplined combinations throughout eight rounds. Despite absorbing consistent damage, Llanes showed tremendous toughness to make it to the final bell. All three judges scored the fight 80-72.

KJ Waialae Hands Monray Marable First Loss

Undefeated Hawaiian prospect KJ Waialae improved to 4-0 with an entertaining six-round unanimous decision victory over previously unbeaten Monray Marable.

Waialae’s relentless pace and higher work rate allowed him to edge out the aggressive Marable, who had his best success in the fourth round. The judges unanimously scored the bout 59-55.

Cooper O’Connell Impresses in North American Debut

Opening the televised card, Australian knockout artist Cooper O’Connell made a statement in his North American debut by stopping Jorge Garcia Manrriquez in the third round.

O’Connell dropped Manrriquez late in the opening round with a sharp left hand before finishing the job in round three with another perfectly timed straight left. Referee Ray Corona waved off the contest at :45 of the third round.

The event was promoted by Robert Garcia, Garry Jonas of ProBox Promotions, and Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing.
