I like riding with smaller cleat SPD pedals as it allows me to walk pretty normal with my cycling shoes on. They work great for me, and I really have no complaints until they start to wear out and I start hearing clicking noises. They are easy to change but for small pieces of metal the Shimano ones seem pretty expensive, I usually see them for around $20. So, to save a few bucks I got these Buclkos cleats for $10, have a look:
Installation
Installation went just like all the Shimano ones I have installed. Fortunately, the old cleat seems to always leave a mark on the shoes to make it easy to get the new ones in the right place. Placement for them is really important for me as if they aren’t in the right place I start getting pain in the legs. Also very important to get them torqued down correctly as you don’t want them to loosen up. I used 6 lbs of torque.
Performance
These are working great. Clipping in and out is just like expected, and my pedaling is nice and quiet again. It was so quiet I noticed I need to do some chain maintenance. After I lubed up the chain my Surly was riding so quiet the only noise I could hear was my ice moving around in my bottle.
Rating
Price is good and so far, performance is good. I’ll give these 5 stars for now and will update later after I have an idea how well they wear. I typically replace my cleats once a year.
