Bumrah Suffers this injury in the first test against Blackcaps

The first Test between India and New Zealand has left the home team with a number of worrying injuries. Shubman Gill complained of neck and shoulder pain just before the Test, while Rishabh Pant had to leave the field on Day 2 after suffering from knee pain. Day 3 saw injury to India’s premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who injured his bowling finger. Bumrah bled through the finger during the course of the game – in fact quite a lot. But in a show of bravery in which he displayed the kind of temperament we have come to expect of him, not only did Bumrah complete that particular over, he even returned to bowl another one.

Bumrah seemed to have sustained some injuries while bowling the third ball of the 86th over of the New Zealand innings, prompting the entrance of the physio onto the field of play. One famous former Indian batsman, Sunil Gavaskar, speaking to the viewers while the play had been interrupted, said that it was Bumrah’s middle finger which had a cut and was also bleeding.

Even with the injury, Bumrah displayed great guts to complete the rest of the over. The pacer then came back to bowl one more over with a taped finger.

India vs New Zealand, 1st Test Day 3: As it happened

New Zealand managed to post a hearty total of 402 all outs in their first innings thanks, in part, to a century from Rachin Ravindra in front of M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Also, 65 off the bat of Tim Southee added to New Zealand’s score.

In reply, the batting from India was, however, far more defiant than the first innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma opened the scores with a 72 run partnership. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan also hit 50s as India maintained a healthy run rate.

India finished the Day 3 on the negative side as Virat Kohli fell for 70 at the end of the day. He scored 70 runs for India, but they were still short of the target with 231 runs on the board with 3 wickets gone.
