Cain Velasquez released from prison

Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez was released from prison on Sunday after spending 10 months incarcerated. The 43-year old was released on parole.

In February 2025, Velasquez was sentenced to five years. He was credited with 1,283 days served after he pleaded no contest to numerous charges including attempted murder.

Velasquez chased and shot at a vehicle carrying Harry Goularte, who was accused of molesting Velasquez’s son at a daycare. Goularte’s stepfather, Paul Bender, was struck by one of the bullets suffering non-life-threatening injuries.

Velasquez, a two-time UFC titleholder, first won the heavyweight championship by knocking out Brock Lesnar in October 2010. He was defeated by Junior dos Santos in his first title defense. He won back the crown in December 2012, defeating dos Santos via unanimous decision. He successfully defended the belt twice before losing to Fabricio Werrdum in June 2015.

Velasquez last fought in February 2019, losing to Francis Ngannou via knockout. He announced his retirement I October of that year.
