The Orlando Magic had every chance to handle business at home on March 23. Instead, they walked off the court with a 128-126 loss to the Indiana Pacers at the Kia Center, extending their losing streak to five games. Facing a team that had dropped 16 straight, Magic’s late-game execution once again came under focus. As the final seconds unfolded and another opportunity slipped away, attention quickly turned to head coach Jamahl Mosley.
NBA World Reacts as Frustration Builds Around Jamahl Mosley
The frustration around Mosley did not come out of nowhere. It built over the final stretch of the game and carried over from recent outings to the point that calls are mounting to fire him.
Against Indiana, the Magic spent most of the night chasing. The Pacers, despite entering on a 16-game losing streak, controlled the tempo and exploded for 44 points in the third quarter. Orlando trailed by as many as 12 in the fourth before mounting a late push.
Paolo Banchero led the comeback with a season-high 39 points, while Tristan da Silva added 21. The Magic cut the deficit to two with under 30 seconds left, setting up a final chance to tie.
After winning a jump ball with 6.4 seconds remaining, Banchero drove into traffic but was denied at the rim by Pascal Siakam, ending the game. The late-game slip-ups drew severe criticism from analysts, much of it focused on Mosley.
CBS Sports’ Sam Quinn pointed to mounting pressure, writing, “Jamahl Mosley has seemingly been on the hot seat for months but if the Magic lose to the freaking Pacers after the debacle that was the end of that Lakers game, we’re gonna start venturing into Taylor Jenkins/Michael Malone territory.”

Keith Smith of Spotrac focused on the overall performance, adding that a late-game coaching change might be coming. “Oh Magic…That was really, really bad. Late-season coaching change incoming like we saw with Denver and Memphis last year?” he posted.

The @robknowsball_account further pushed the call for a coaching change, writing, “If the Magic were a serious organization, Mosley would be fired by tomorrow morning.”
If the Magic were a serious organization, Mosley would be fired by tomorrow morning. But their GM is an even bigger clown than he is.

The Lando account pointed to preparation issues, noting, “Mosley talking about Carlisle being a hall of fame coach… talking about how ready you need to be… He’s right. However… Mose is unable to have his guys ready.”
Mosley talking about Carlisle being a hall of fame coach, and half the Pacers roster being in the Finals last year.
Talking about how ready you need to be to play that team and ignore their record.
He’s right. However, for whatever reason, Mose is unable to have his guys ready.

Earlier in the game, confusion over a proximate foul situation also drew attention. Orlando Magic Daily spotlighted the situation, writing, “The #Magic are in trouble tonight. The #Pacers are playing hard and making everything hard, even with the Magic scoring 95 points in three quarters. Mosley again costs the Magic, not knowing you can’t have a proximate foul on a goaltend.
#Pacers lead 103-95 after three.”
Likewise, Orlando Magic Daily also highlighted the shortcomings in the Magic’s offensive structure, “Mosley made a ton of mistakes tonight. Clear the players don’t have faith or understanding of what to do offensively. It’s just bad.”

Mosley had already faced criticism following a controversial late-game foul situation in the 105-104 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. Before that, he was ejected in a recent game against the Charlotte Hornets after picking up two quick technical fouls while arguing a non-call.
With that context, the reaction to this loss felt sharper. The loss itself carried weight beyond the final score. The Pacers entered the game on a 16-game losing streak and with one of the league’s least productive offenses. Yet, they shot 54.9% from the field and 45.7% from 3-point range, with Pascal Siakam leading the way with 37 points.
The Magic, meanwhile, showed flashes but struggled to sustain control. The result dropped Orlando to 38-33 on the season and extended a five-game losing stretch that has become increasingly difficult to ignore. On a night when the Magic needed a steady performance at home, they instead delivered another close loss that quickly shifted the conversation beyond the box score.
