Troy Williamson became the new British, Commonwealth and European Super middleweight champion at First Direct Arena in Leeds, as he took a stunning 10th-round stoppage win against the previously unbeaten Callum Simpson.
Simpson (18-1, 13 KOs) was last out in June, coming off the canvas twice against Ivan Zucco to take the vacant European crown. Williamson (22-4-1, 16 KOs) had lost four fights out of five, but got his career back on track in September, stopping English champion Mark Dickinson in nine rounds.
Simpson began strongly, landing with a couple of nice left hands in the first round, but the action then became scrappy, with the second full of clinches and holding.
The 29-year-old was working well at range, but two left hands from the challenger got his attention in round four, before Simpson wrestled back control with a nice flurry in the fifth.
Williamson was negating the Barnsley man’s work by tying him up, and his right hand was also a potent weapon, landing well in the eighth, and he was also taking everything Simpson had to offer, and growing in confidence as a result.
After taking a clear ninth, Williamson cranked up the pressure, with a massive left hand dropping Simpson in round ten, before being dropped twice more.
The writing was firmly on the wall, and an overhand right did the trick eventually, with the referee calling a halt to the action to crown the 34-year-old the new champion.

Whale takes out Eales
A 10-rounder headed the undercard, and Elliot Whale (13-0, 8 KOs) dealt with the late-notice withdrawal of Blair Cobbs, as he scored a sixth-round stoppage win against Ashlee Eales (11-2, 3 KOs).
Remaining Undercard
In six-rounders, Sam Hickey (4-0, 1 KO) took a 60-53 win against Aljaz Venko (7-8-1, 3 KOs) at middleweight, and at welterweight, Jake John Cleary (5-0) was a 58-57 winner against Ellis Ward (5-1, 1 KO).
At middleweight, Tom Rafferty (16-0, 6 KOs) was a fourth-round stoppage winner against Lewis Howells (3-5).
In four-round affairs, Mick Learmonth (14-0, 6 KOs) was a points winner against Harry Matthews (18-104-7, 2 KOs) at light heavyweight, and cruiserweight novice Bradley Casey (3-0, 1 KO) won all four sessions against Dylan Courtney (2-27-2, 1 KO).
At lightweight, Levis Giles (17-2-1, 4 KOs) won on the cards against Jahfieus Faure (4-22-2), and at middleweight, Cory Sagar (5-0) was a points winner against Joe Hardy (5-42-1).
