Hampshire’s hopes of reaching the Global Super League (GSL) 2024 Final hang by a thread as they prepare for their crucial clash against table-toppers Victoria on Friday, December 6. This match, scheduled at Providence Stadium, Guyana, will also mark the conclusion of the league stage. With just one win in three matches, Hampshire face a must-win scenario to keep their final dreams alive.
A victory alone won’t guarantee Hampshire qualify for GSL 2024 final. Their progression will depend on net run rate (NRR), as Guyana Amazon Warriors and Victoria are already strong contenders, each with four points. Hampshire currently sit third with two points and an NRR of -0.280. The task becomes even steeper given Victoria’s unbeaten run in the tournament so far.
Toby Albert, Hampshire’s batter, remains optimistic despite the uphill battle. Speaking to BBC Radio Solent, he acknowledged the challenges posed by unfamiliar conditions and strong opponents like Guyana. “Chasing has been tough, but the team is learning and adapting. We have to give it everything in the last game, and you never know what could happen,” Albert said.
Victoria, leading with a net run rate of +0.484, have already secured their spot in the final. Meanwhile, Guyana Amazon Warriors (+0.433) look poised to claim the second spot unless Hampshire pull off a stunning win and surpass them on NRR. For Hampshire to qualify for GSL 2024 final, not only must they defeat Victoria, but they also need to ensure a significant margin to boost their NRR.
The stakes couldn’t be higher as Hampshire fight for survival in the tournament. With Lahore Qalandars and Rangpur Riders already out of contention, this is Hampshire’s last shot at redemption. The match promises to be a nail-biting contest with everything on the line.
