Team India is eyeing to win the first Test against New Zealand. The visitors need only 107 runs to secure their victory on Day 5, and are in an upper position to secure the victory. Team India will need a miraculous turn of events if they want to win the opening Test.
Throughout their history of Tests, it has been witnessed only once that India have defended a target of 107 or less. In 2004, a trio of Murali Kartik, Anil Kumble, and Harbhajan Singh were the players to have bowled Australia for 93 runs as they defended 107 runs. Another instance was in 1981 when India bowled out Australia for 83 runs as they were defending 143 runs.
When talking about defending low scores against New Zealand, the lowest successful defence by India was 188 runs in 1969. The lowest successful defence in the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium was also of 188 runs, which was completed against Australia in 2017.
