Cardiff’s Kontos nets hat trick in thrashing of Dundee

Cardiff Devils made it back-to-back home wins over Dundee Stars in their weekend double-header, thrashing their Scottish opponents 8-1 on Sunday afternoon.

It took Kris Kontos just 77 seconds to open the scoring for the Devils, backhanding through traffic after Evan Mosey’s shot was blocked. At 8:30 into the period, Brett Perlini deflected a Cole Sanford pass past Jarrett Fiske to double the lead.

Brandon Estes put the Devils three ahead 8:20 into the second, while Dundee called a timeout at 31:09 to try and steady themselves. Kontos made it four with a neat wrist shot after a Sanford pass into the slot.

Justin Bean pulled one back for the Stars 11:47 into the final period.

Kontos, on a hat trick, saw a shot sail over, but the rebound off the glass was put home by Cedric Lacroix at 52:32 to give the Devils their fifth.

Josh MacDonald tidied up at the back post to make it 6-1 at 53:30, before Kontos did score his third of the night from the circle with 3:27 to play. Brett Ferguson rounded off the Devils’ win 51 seconds from the end.
