ORLANDO, Fla. — Carlos Adames made a thunderous statement to the middleweight division on Saturday night.
The reigning World Boxing Council middleweight champion delivered a commanding performance, dropping top contender Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams en route to a clear unanimous decision victory in Orlando.
The dominant outing marked the third successful world title defense for Adames and reinforced his growing reputation as one of boxing’s most dangerous champions at 160 pounds.
Adames Sends Message to the Division
Adames didn’t just win — he made sure the rest of the division took notice.
“I said it before the fight… destroy and demolish, and that’s exactly what I did. I didn’t just win, I sent a message to the entire middleweight division. When I sent him down in the second round, I knew the fight was mine. From that moment on, it was about discipline, breaking him down round by round and showing the world my level.”
The Dominican champion floored Williams in the second round, immediately shifting the momentum of the fight. From there, Adames maintained control with calculated pressure, sharp combinations, and disciplined ring generalship.
Respect for Williams — But a Clear Gap in Levels
Despite the dominant performance, Adames acknowledged the toughness of his opponent.
“Respect to Ammo, he’s a warrior and he came to fight. But there are levels in this sport. I showed the difference between a contender and a champion.”
Williams entered the bout as a dangerous and highly regarded contender, but Adames’ experience and championship composure ultimately proved decisive.
A Champion Sharpened by Time Away
Saturday’s fight marked Adames’ first appearance since February 2025, but the time away from the ring appeared to only sharpen the champion’s focus.
“Thirteen months away didn’t slow me down, it made me sharper and more dangerous,” said Adames. “I came back with something to prove, and I proved it in dominant fashion.”
Calling Out the Best at 160 and 168 Pounds
With another title defense secured, Adames made it clear he’s ready to challenge anyone in or around the middleweight division.
“I truly believe I’m the best middleweight in the world right now. Anyone with a belt, anyone with a name, I’m ready. If you’re at 160 and you think you’re the best, even anyone at 168 pounds, come see me. I’m taking over.”
The bold declaration positions Adames for potential unification fights or even a move up to the super middleweight division, where some of boxing’s biggest stars reside.
For now, though, the Dominican champion appears firmly planted on the throne at 160 pounds — and daring anyone to try and take it from him.
