Carlos Adames makes a third defence of his WBC middleweight world title in a rescheduled clash with Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams on Saturday at the Caribe Royale in Orlando.
Adames was supposed to have defended his crown against Williams on January 31 in New York, but the champion withdrew the day before the bout through illness.
Williams remained on the card, which was headlined by Shakur Stevenson’s victory over Teofimo Lopez, comfortably defeating Wendy Toussaint by unanimous decision.
The 29-year-old southpaw challenges for a maiden world title and has won four on the bounce since a sole professional loss to Hamzah Sheeraz.
Adames also tackled the aforementioned Sheeraz in his last outing last February, retaining his belt with a controversial draw, with many believing the Dominican had done enough to emerge victorious.
The 31-year-old has only lost once in his career in a points reverse to Patrick Teixeira in 2019.
