Carlos Alcaraz continued his tour de domination in Doha this week, winning the title in spectacular fashion with a 6–2 6–1 victory in just 50 minutes against fellow rising player Arthur Fils.
The match was not only one of the best Alcaraz has ever played, but also one of the most one-sided finals in recent years. Alcaraz raced to the title, winning nearly 70% of the total points played.
A Masterclass in Doha
The match started with an immediate break from Alcaraz, and from that moment, he never looked back. Over the next 50 minutes, the Spaniard broke Fils’ serve four more times, winning as many return points as Fils won total points in the match.
Alcaraz paired that returning dominance with remarkable serving and baseline precision. He did not concede a single break point and dropped just five points on serve throughout the contest. Both his forehand and backhand dictated play in what had been billed as a battle of groundstroke power between two young stars.
Ultimately, it was Alcaraz who had all the answers. He constantly posed problems that left Fils visibly frustrated, leading to a racket smash and a candid admission during the trophy ceremony that the Spaniard had simply been too good on the day.
Building an All-Time Resume
This title marks Alcaraz’s tenth since Monte Carlo last year, a run that has firmly placed him in all-time great conversations. During that stretch, he has also reached three additional finals and captured three Major titles.
In under a year, Alcaraz has transformed from a player known for alternating extreme highs and lows into arguably the most consistent and dominant force on tour. His 2025 season and unbeaten start to this year underline that evolution.
Next on the schedule for the Spaniard is Indian Wells, a tournament where he has reached the semifinals four times and lifted the trophy twice. He will once again enter as the favorite, looking to extend what is shaping up to be one of the most remarkable runs of the Open Era.
