The Miami Beach Convention Center is hosting the second edition of the Miami P1, which last year played a significant role in the development of padel in the United States.
And ATP No. 1 tennis icon Carlos Alcaraz showed up to watch the action after his unlikely exit from the Miami Open.
“Sinner and I against Coello and Tapia in padel? We would win, without a doubt,” said Alcaraz with a smile. Even though he was recently defeated at the Miami Open by Sebastian Korda, the Spaniard was joking with press at Miami P1. He stayed in Miami and, before returning to Europe, enjoyed Miami’s padel spectacle happening concurrently with the Miami Open.
Alcaraz was welcomed by FIP President Luigi Carraro, Premier Padel CEO David Serrahima, and the legend Fernando Belasteguin, director of the Miami Premier Padel P1, as he returned to the Miami Beach Convention Center for the second consecutive year and was greeted many friends.
He embraced Agustin Tapia and Arturo Coello, then Mike Yanguas and Franco Stupaczuk, before taking his seat in the front row of the VIP stands next to President Carraro to watch the matches.“I’ve also been getting into padel recently”, said the world No. 1 in tennis. “Just a few days of training and…”. “And you’ll beat everyone”, Carraro replied jokingly.
But who would be the toughest tennis player to face in padel, according to Alcaraz? “Definitely someone with good touch, for example Dimitrov. But also Zverev, perhaps also because of his height and his smashes”. And in the world of professional padel? “In padel, everyone”.
One thing is certain: Alcaraz would manage well with a padel racket too. He enjoys the sport and finds it fun; he had watched it live for the first time exactly a year ago in Miami and wanted to return for another experience.
