One of the reboot’s biggest flaws is comuberson car performance – mercifully, it’s being worked on.
Carmageddon: Rogue Shift is set to receive dramatically revised vehicle dynamics, and beta playtesters are currently providing feedback.
Developer 34BigThings has posted to the Steam community for the game with five key physics changes currently in the works:
- Tyre physics with a more progressive friction loss curve
- Increased steering responsiveness
- Adjustable steering rate
- Adjustable steering curve (i.e. how linear the gamepad response is)
- Increased acceleration curves, especially when shifting into reverse.
Presently, the vehicles can feel about as nimble as a cruise liner, with tighter turns or reversing out of a tight spot extraordinarily cumbersome. This was noted in our review.
It recently announced that wheel support was in development, but in the opinion of the Traxion team, there needed to be significant changes to the driving experience for this to work effectively.
Now it sounds as if that will be the case, and those on Steam can open the public beta if they’d like to test the updated dynamics.
“Drivers, we hear you loud and clear: you want better manoeuvrability, simpler recovery, and more precise controls,” said 34BigThings.
“We’ve gone back to the drawing board and cooked up a patch that rebalances the handling model to give you the crunchier, more grounded experience you’ve been asking for, while keeping true to our vision.”
