Team India saw a terrible 113-run defeat in the 2nd Test when facing New Zealand in Pune. After this loss, India also gave away the three-match Test series with a mat yet to spare. This has put a severe impact on their standings in the World Test Championship 2023-25 points table.
The match loss in Pune was more discouraging as this marked the first time India had been consecutively defeated by New Zealand in home grounds. Apart from that, New Zealand also became the third Test in 21st century to have won a Test series against India. Australia and England had won a Test series before them in 2004 and 2012 respectively.
India’s campaign in the World Test Championship (WTC) suffered a big setback with the humiliating defeat to New Zealand in the second Test at MCA stadium. This loss resulted in India’s WTC points percentage to go down from 68.06 to 62.82, which has resulted in a narrow lead over the Australia.
