Charlton boss Nathan Jones was left furious at August Priskie’s challenge on Lloyd Jones with the referee also being criticised.
Asked about a yellow card shown to Priskie, Jones was angry with the decision to only give the Birmingham player a yellow card in the 17th minute. Priskie was then taken off by Chris Davies on the 57th minute.
@LouisMend: “17′ Priske booked for Blues. Left one on Jones after the Addicks defender had cleared the ball.”
@RichSCawley: “The ref has made some really poor decisions so far. Latest one not to give Carey a free-kick sees Nathan Jones pull his hood over his head and go into a crouching position. August Priske booked early on and the replays don’t look great. Catches Lloyd Jones late with his right arm. #cafc”
@LouisMend: “47′ Priske given a talking to after another aerial challenge with Jones but no second yellow.”
The Addicks ended up scoring the only goal of the game, thanks to Charlie Kelman, leaving Charlton 18th in the Championship table with 44 points from 36 games played, 9 points above the drop zone, while Birmingham are 12th with 49 points from 36 games played, 8 points from the playoff places.
Uhhh that’s naughty from Birmingham striker August Priske.

Asked for his thoughts on the yellow card, Jones said, per LondonWorld: “It wasn’t just that, it was the nine after it. I couldn’t understand how their centre-forward was allowed to not look at the ball and jump straight into our centre-half. I don’t get that. We kept on at the fourth official and he said he’d not seen anything.
“I’ve got to be honest with you, I genuinely do not know the rules of football anymore. What I see as easy, clear fouls, they don’t see. Then they give certain stuff, you only need to blow on someone’s number on their back and they fall over, get a foul because the referee doesn’t want any controversy.
“I just don’t get it. I can get myself in trouble. These are apparently better qualified than us to referee games. I’m baffled by some of those decisions, in my opinion. It might not have been wrong, but in my opinion.
“The five or six after, it might not have been nine, because he consistently did it.
“I can’t be to vociferous because I get booked for anything. I was baffled by some of the stuff, but let’s talk about the win, clean sheet, level of performance. It was wonderful.”
Charlton boss Nathan Jones, per BBC Sport:
“Every win is massive in this league and this stage of the season. I felt it was thoroughly deserved.
“Others had won or picked up points, so we knew we had to do that as well. It’s all about us getting to a points total we’re comfortable with and building from there.
“I don’t think we’re close [to safety]. You won’t feel that way until it is mathematical. That wasn’t our goal after the first 15 games. We didn’t expect to be in this position.
“We picked up injuries at the wrong time but now we’re coming through that. The performance levels have been good lately, we haven’t lost many. Could we have won a few more? Yeah. Have we let ourselves down with one or two performances? Yeah. But we are fighting and competing at this level, it’s only our first year back.”
Birmingham City head coach Chris Davies told BBC Radio WM:
“It was another disappointing result. We didn’t do enough to win the game. It was a game of very, very few chances.
“We had some decent situations in the second half but didn’t capitalise on when we had the momentum.
“It’s such a soft way to lose – from a long throw into the box, bouncing ball, scrappy goal. It’s very frustrating.
“We’ve got to do more. We can’t expect to win gets if, in those critical moments, we don’t defend well enough.
“I’m really frustrated. It was a game we let get away from us and I expected more. We’ve got to learn and we really need to pull together now and finish the season strong.”
Here’s how fans reacted with Charlton boss Nathan Jones furious at Priskie’s challenge on Lloyd Jones and the referee criticised…
@jakeistead: Got straight back up and settled the Jonesy Klarer debate, cheers for coming Kristoph 👍
@cafc_daniel: How the fuck did he manage to not get sent off
@danbashamCAFC: The funny thing is, their striker cost more than all of ours put together and he had more fouls than efforts. Imagine giving us Dykes and spending millions on that donkey
@cafc4ever1: I’ve seen the clip. If the ref saw it clearly, it would have been red. Can understand why he didn’t.
@NatJPeters: Get Priske off. He’s going to get sent off otherwise #bcfc
@CafcJake: that’s a rank challenge
@Franco_CAFC_5: Imagine fucking Lyndon Dykes off down the road and spunking £7m on that Priske fella. The geezer threw more elbows than he had touches. Absolute toilet 😂🤣😂 #cafc
@noxah_4: how is priske still on the pitch?? #cafc
@danbashamCAFC: Priske should be off #cafc
@Willphill18: Inconsistency’s again by officials. Priske gets booked for the same thing dykes did earlier in the game and he got nothing. This is what’s frustrating #BCFC
@_K_R_O__: This ref is a awful. Books Priske for the same thing Wagner received but no card. Blatant handball by Dykes ignored. He’s always a arrogant joke against us #BCFC
@J1875_: Did Priske just get booked for doing the exact same thing Dykes done to Wagner? #BCFC
