Liam Rosenior will take charge of Chelsea for the first time when they visit London rivals Charlton Athletic on Saturday night.

The Englishman was appointed as the Blues’ new head coach earlier this week, succeeding Enzo Maresca who departed Stamford Bridge on New Year’s Day.

Rosenior was in the stands to watch Chelsea’s dismal 2-1 defeat against west London neighbours Fulham on Wednesday night, and the ex-Strasbourg boss will be in the dugout at The Valley as the Blues face the Addicks in the FA Cup third round.

Ahead of the game, it appears that those in charge of Chelsea are confident about their chances of signing a former Premier League player in a lucrative deal.

As per Fichajes, via CaughtOffside, the Blues are confident that they could sign Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez and are preparing a huge offer for the Argentine.

It is claimed that the FIFA Club World Cup champions are plotting an offer worth around £130 million for the 25-year-old.

While several clubs are likely to be interested in the Argentina international, the report suggests that Chelsea are confident that they can win the race to land the attacker as he is open to the prospect of a return to English football.

Alvarez joined Atletico from Manchester City in the summer of 2024, and has since impressed in Spain.

In total he has made 82 appearances for Atleti across all competitions, scoring 40 goals and registering 13 assists.

Chelsea are said to be on the hunt for attacking reinforcements despite recruiting heavily over the summer, when the likes of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro arrived at Stamford Bridge.

Alvarez is under contract in the Spanish capital until the end of the 2029/30 season, but the report suggests that Chelsea could test their resolve with a staggering offer of around £130 million in the coming months.
