Chiefs DT Chris Jones Makes Request After Dolphins Release Tyreek Hill

Chris Jones and the Kansas City Chiefs did not have the 2025 NFL season many had expected. After starting the season with a 6-5 record and firm positioning in the playoff hunt, the Chiefs dropped their final six games of the year, finishing at 6-11 and missing out on the postseason for the first time in Jones’ career.

Still, Jones delivered another solid season in his 10th year in Kansas City. The former Mississippi State standout appeared in all 17 regular-season games, totaling 29 tackles, seven sacks and two passes defended. And with three years remaining on his five-year, $158.75 million contract, Jones is now focused on returning to the Super Bowl next season, even expressing interest in a potential reunion with a former key Chiefs player.

Tyreek Hill began his NFL career with the Chiefs back in 2016, selected in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He spent six seasons in Kansas City catching passes from quarterbacks Alex Smith and Patrick Mahomes, earning four All-Pro nods while helping the Chiefs win Super Bowl LIV.

Following the 2021 NFL season, Kansas City traded Hill to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for multiple draft picks, including a first-round selection in 2022. Hill spent the next four seasons in Miami, emerging as the team’s top receiver during that span while earning two additional All-Pro honors. However, in Week 4 of the 2025 season, Hill suffered a serious knee injury that ended his year.

And on Monday, the Dolphins decided it was time for a change, releasing Hill despite having one year remaining on his three-year, $90 million contract. Unfortunately for Hill, he will now enter free agency while recovering from his serious injury, which could steer other teams away, and he will have to forfeit the non-guaranteed money he would have earned had Miami kept him for the 2026 NFL season.

However, Jones took notice of Hill’s release and took to social media to call for the wide receiver to return to Kansas City for another shot at a Super Bowl in 2026.

“@cheetah it’s ⏰,” Jones wrote to Hill on X.

The Chiefs will look to rebuild their roster for another potential Super Bowl run beginning on March 11 when free agency officially opens.
