Patrick Mahomes saw his 9th NFL season with the Kansas City Chiefs come to an unfortunate end. The quarterback was forced to miss the last few games of 2025 after tearing his ACL in Week 15, watching from the sideline as the Chiefs finished the season on a six-game losing streak, missing out on the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
Despite Kansas City not having the year it was hoping for, Mahomes still proved to be one of the best quarterbacks in the league. The three-time Super Bowl MVP completed 315-of-502 passes for 3,587 yards, 22 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, while adding another 422 yards and five scores on the ground. However, for a second-straight season, Mahomes did not receive a Pro Bowl nod.

But amid his recovery during the offseason, Mahomes is still finding time for other sports, tuning into the first round of the 2026 NCAA Tournament. And while his alma mater, the Texas Tech Red Raiders, secured their spot in the second round on Friday, Mahomes had his eyes on the matchup between the No. 7 seed Kentucky Wildcats and the No. 10 seed Santa Clara Broncos.
The matchup was certainly one of the more exciting games of the first round. With the score tied at 70, Santa Clara’s Allen Graves hit a 3-point shot with just two seconds remaining to give his team the lead. But in a last-ditch effort to force overtime, Kentucky’s Otega Oweh heaved a shot from near half court as time expired, knocking it down to tie the game at the end of regulation.
Mahomes caught a glimpse of the two final-second shots by Santa Clara and Kentucky, leaving his thoughts on social media by using a laughing with tears emoji.
“Hahah Wow Kentucky!! 🤣,” Mahomes wrote on X.

Kentucky would go on to beat Santa Clara 89-84, and just like Mahomes’ Texas Tech, the Wildcats keep their national championship hopes alive, advancing to the second round.
