Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is responding to Team USA hockey’s win over Canada to win the gold.
Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are in the offseason, and while Mahomes rehabs from his ACL and LCL injury from the 2025-26 season, he’s taking in the 2026 Olympics Games.
So, Mahomes is like the rest of us, watching the Winter Olympics, expect that he’s a Super Bowl-winning quarterback, of course. Well, on Sunday, February 22, Team USA men’s hockey pulled off an overtime win over Team Canada with a 2-1 final score.
After the win, congratulations came in from around the world for the Hughes brothers, Jack and Quinn Hughes, as well as the team for their victory.
“The drought is over,” Team USA shared on X after the win. “ The men of USA Hockey are golden at the Winter Olympics for the first time since 1980.”

Mahomes was happy with the win and let it be known. After the men pulled off their victory, he took to X to share a post with three United States flags emojis.
“What a time to be alive,” one follower commented. “Patrick brings us Super Bowls after 50 years and team USA brings us gold after 46 years. Blessed we are.”
“USA, baby, and ended 46-year drought and finally got gold medal,” another said. “Great game,” one more stated, adding, “A shame it was on in the morning though in America. A million or more would of watched if it was tonight.”
Austin Nivison of CBS News wrote about the win moments after it happened, stating, “After Team USA and Canada played to a 1-1 tie at the end of the regulation, the rivals went to overtime, and that’s where Hughes became a national hero.
He added, On an odd-man rush for the United States, Zach Werenski found Hughes cruising down the week side, and the New Jersey Devils star beat Jordan Binnington with a perfect shot to the far post.”
Kansas City Chiefs Still Have the Odds in Their Favor for the 2026-27 Season
The oddsmakers in Las Vegas are still ranking the Kansas City Chiefs as one of the strongest teams in the AFC, even though the team didn’t make it to the playoffs in the 2025-26 season.
According to a report from Draft Kings, the Chiefs are projected to have 10.5 wins next year. They’re also No. 3 in the AFC, only behind the Ravens at No. 1 and Bills at No. 2.
In a story out on Thursday, February 19, for Arrowhead Addict, Matt Conner notes, “One year after the AFC West was twisted enough for the Chiefs to land in third place overall, the reigning division champs, the Denver Broncos, still haven’t earned the benefit of the doubt that they’ll repeat in 2025.”
Conner adds, “Denver is listed on the next tier of teams at 9.5 wins. There is, however, a consistent belief in the Las Vegas Raiders‘ inability to do anything but lose games, as they’ve been given a 5.5 over/under win total.”
So, the Kansas City Chiefs have reason to celebrate during the offseason. So does Team USA.
