Chris Davies and Christoph Klarer give damning reaction amid anger from Birmingham fans

Chris Davies and Christoph Klarer give a damning reaction amid anger from Birmingham fans after their 1-0 defeat to Charlton.

Charlie Kelman’s 74th minute goal sees Charlton sitting 18th in the Championship table with 44 points from 36 games played, 9 points above the drop zone.

As for Birmingham, they are in 12th place, with 49 points from 36 games played, 8 points from the playoff places.

Davies said, per Birmingham Mail: “Play-offs are unlikely now. I think we needed to get something here today and an incredible run.

“We can put that to one side for now. It’s the next game and getting a result in that.

“Ultimately, we lost the game on a long throw. We weren’t at our best again today.

“First half there was very little in the game, I was comfortable enough with how we weren’t inviting pressure with too many short passes, knowing how they want to press.

“I think we evaded that well and nullified the game. We could have done more with the ball, but we certainly didn’t invite any pressure, and then second half I was encouraged by the way we started.

“I felt like we had all the momentum for a large period of the half, got into good situations and could have made better decisions. If the final touch, final pass or shot had been better, the game could have been a bit different.

“But then we got hit with the sucker-punch from the long throw. It’s just such a soft goal to concede.

“If you don’t get the first contact and it bounces then you’ve reduced your chances significantly of keeping the ball out of the net and we didn’t do those two things.

“It was extremely frustrating to lose a game like that off a throw-in like that.

“We’ve got to guard against that and I’ve made that absolutely clear to the players and I will continue to do so. We’ve still got a huge amount to play for.

“We can’t let that seep in at all and it’s my job to make sure that it doesn’t.”

Klarer said, per Birmingham Mail: “That makes it three losses in a row now, it’s something that is not acceptable, especially in the manner that the game went.

“It’s uncomfortable now. If there’s criticism coming our way we deserve it after three losses in a row, I’m aware of that.

“Now the real characters need to step up and everyone needs to do more in training. We need to work hard to get back to winning ways.”

“We need to get better at winning first and second balls going forward and at the basics of the game.

“We shouldn’t have to say that but ultimately those are the basics of this division. We know we’ve got good players but if you’re not doing the basics well enough you’re not going to win anything.

“The last week was tough for us. We need the big players and the big personalities to step up now and lift the group.”

Here’s how social media users reacted as Chris Davies and Christoph Klarer give damning reaction amid anger from Birmingham fans…

@CamGpfc: Embarrassing, you literally came up last year, try being a Pompey fan 😂

@LeeAHinton95: Not a good look this for me personally. Things aren’t in such dire straights that we need to be this toxic.

@fey_jason: Why so toxic, ridiculous

@benj1boo: It’s genuinely not the result.. it’s the piss poor performances. All we ask for is a bit of fight and we didn’t get that yesterday

@wspencer93: You’d think we were in a relegation fight. Embarrassing from some fans this is. Our highest position in the champ for years a people expecting back to back promotion. Have some patience!

@johnnieK88: Personally thought singing that was awful & disrespectful, I applauded them off, not because they played well, both teams were terrible, but because its my club & we take the rough with the smooth. You’d have thought we were baggies in a relegation fight looking at that. 🤷‍♂️ #KRO

@craigrobbo6: Watch Laird, comes over smiling, leaves crying cause he doesn’t like a few fans voicing their opinions…

@saley1984: The kids giving the grief probably only jumped on the hype train last year. 10 days ago they’d have been all giddy being close to the play offs 🤣🤣🤣 You’d think we’re back watching Harlee Dean and Marc Roberts again

@JCartwright1875: We’re F’ing 12th, not 24th 🤣. Honestly our fan base is laughable sometimes. We’ve barely won anything in 150 years. Barely had any success whatsoever, and we act like the most entitled fan base on planet earth 🤦🏻‍♂️. On for our highest championship finish in 14 years btw. 🫠 #bcfc

@RobPUSB: Okay. Genuinely #bcfc fans humour me. You are a newly promoted side. You was near the bottom for seasons before you got relegated. This leagues hard and spending plenty of money we know doesn’t guarantee success. What did you actually expect this season?

@utvHarry: Don’t ever let them tell you they weren’t expecting to go up straight away, reacting like this when half the fanbase are saying mid table is fine? Currently 12th btw 🤣 #AVFC
