Cincinnati Reds vs. Miami Marlins – April 6, 2026

After a three-game sweep of Texas over the weekend, the Cincinnati Reds (6-3) look to extend their winning streak when they start a four-game series with the Miami Marlins (6-3) Monday night. First pitch is at 6:40 PM EDT.

The Marlins have started the season strong, with six wins in their first nine games; however, they are also coming off a series loss to the Yankees over the weekend.

Lineups

Starting Pitchers

Brandon Williamson

Brandon Williamson looks to rebound from his terrible opening start last week against Pittsburgh when he allowed six runs on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts in 4.2 innings. Two of the three home runs he allowed in that start were to left-handed hitters. If there’s a positive to Williamson’s first start of the season, it’s that his whiff rate on both his sweeper and cutter were above 30 percent with three strikeouts. It’s only one game, but this is significantly increased from 2023 and 2024.

Williamson’s fastball average speed is usually in the low 90s, while his breaking pitches average mid-70s for his curveball and low 80s for his changeup and sweeper. He pitched very limited innings in 2024 due to Tommy John surgery, but through one start in 2026, it would seem that his velocity is similar to what it is was pre-surgery.

Janson Junk

Janson Junk is coming off a win in his first start of the season in which he allowed two runs with five hits over 4.1 innings against the Chicago White Sox. This is Junk’s sixth season in the major leagues, but last season was his first full season. He pitched 110.0 innings in what could be considered as a breakout year. His ERA was a little high at 4.17, but his FIP was at 3.14, suggesting that he had been the beneficiary of some bad luck. This can also be evident in his strikeout to walk ratio. While he’s not a major strikeout pitcher, with only 77 total, he doesn’t walk hitters. He allowed only 13 walks the entire 2025 season. Lefties do hit Junk fairly well, with a batting average over .300 and an .847 OPS against him in his career.
