City of the Wolves confirmed as official title for Phygital Fighting at the Games of the Future 2026 – Esports Africa News

From South Town to the cage: precision gameplay meets full-contact combat as elite MMA athletes battle for a US$500,000 prize pool in Astana this summer.

The Games of the Future (GOTF) has announced that FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves will power the digital stage of Phygital Fighting at the Games of the Future 2026, the world’s leading phygital sports event.

A legendary franchise in the fighting game genre, FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves brings decades of competitive heritage, global recognition, and a deeply engaged community to the groundbreaking international tournament, where physical sport and digital gameplay converge into a single, unified competitive format.

Taking place on 7–8 August 2026 at the Athletics Sports Complex “Qazaqstan”, the Phygital Fighting competition will see elite MMA athletes compete in a format that combines digital gameplay with live MMA bouts, for a total prize pool of US$500,000.

This direct shift from calculated gameplay to real-world impact defines Phygital Fighting as one of the most intense formats in modern sport. Following its debut at the Games of the Future 2025 in Abu Dhabi,  where it quickly emerged as a standout discipline, attracting an average of 4,000 daily attendees and 27.7 million cumulative views across streaming platforms, it returns for GOTF 2026 in Astana to further redefine the intersection of esports and traditional competition.

Known for its timing-driven combat, iconic characters and high-stakes duels, FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves provides a natural foundation for this hybrid discipline.

“Working with globally recognised titles such as FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves is central to positioning the Games of the Future and phygital sport as a leading international platform. Having one of the most legendary fighting games in our roster for the 2026 edition raises the level of competition and reinforces the Games position as groundbreaking international tournament that sits perfectly at the intersection of sport, gaming and entertainment.” said William Al-Badeesh, Publisher Relations Manager at Phygital International.

By welcoming FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves as the official digital title, the Games of the Future continues to work with iconic franchises that have shaped competitive gaming; bringing them into a new era where what happens in the game does not stay in the game.

“We are very pleased that FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves has once again been selected as a title for GOTF 2026, following the tournament last year. GOTF is a groundbreaking competition that brings together esports and physical sports in a way never seen before. We believe that as this innovative event continues to expand globally, it will bring significant changes to the gaming industry as a whole. At SNK, we are excited to take on this new challenge together with GOTF.”said Naoto Mori Manager, eSports Department, SNK Corporation.

Phygital Fighting is one of the eight disciplines confirmed for GOTF 2026, which will take place from 29 July to 11 August 2026 in Astana. The event is expected to bring together over 900 participants from more than 50 countries , reinforcing its position as the world’s premier phygital sports competition.

Team rosters and participating fighters and broadcast details will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
