Claressa Shields vs Franchon Crews-Dezurn 2 – Results & Post-Fight Report

Claressa Shields once again dominated her opponent, and defended her undisputed heavyweight crown with a landslide rematch points win against Franchon Crews-Dezurn at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on Sunday.

Shields (18-0, 3 KOs) and Crews-Dezurn (10-3, 2 KOs) had previously met when both were making their professional debuts in 2016, with Shields winning every round of four, and over nine years later, the outcome was the same this time around over 10 rounds.

After bad blood at the weigh-in, the pair went for the fences in the opening round, with the home favourite’s speed proving the difference.

They were content to let their hands go, with Shields pushing her rival back in the second, and using her boxing skills to stay out of trouble in the third.

The challenger’s face was showing signs of damage in the fourth, as she ate more and more combinations from Shields, and by round six, the 38-year-old looked spent, with Shields landing almost at will, as she completely overwhelmed her exhausted opponent.

By round eight, Crews-Dezurn was bloodied from her mouth, missing wildly with punches that allowed Shields to get rapid-fire combinations off, and she continued to pick her shots going into the final round, where the writing was already on the wall.

Crews-Dezurn was brave until the final bell, but ultimately outgunned, and that was reflected on the scorecards that all read 100-90 for Shields in an emphatic defence of her belts.

The 30-year-old called out unified super middleweight world champion, Shadasia Green post-fight.

Concerning scenes as George collapses

There were worrying scenes as Joseph George collapsed in his corner at the end of the first round of his clash with Atif Oberlton (15-0, 13 KOs).

George (13-2, 8 KOs) made it to his feet, but was in no position to continue.

Remaining Undercard

Former heavyweight title challenger and Claressa Shields opponent Danielle Perkins (6-1, 3 KOs) returned to action with a stunning sixth-round stoppage of Australia’s Chei Kenneally (5-1, 2 KOs).

In ten round action, there was an upset as Samantha Worthington (12-1, 7 KOs) lost her unbeaten record and her interim WBA super lightweight title, retiring after eight rounds against Argentina’s Edith Matthysse (21-16-1, 4 KOs).

In eight-rounders, Shannel Butler (7-0, 3 KOs) was a comfortable points winner against Danila Ramos (14-5, 1 KO) at featherweight, and at super lightweight, Savannah Tini (7-0, 2 KOs) remained unbeaten with a points win over Vaida Masiokaite (11-30-6, 1 KO).

Pryce Taylor (11-0, 7 KOs) was another to stay unbeaten, halting James Evans (9-3-1, 7 KOs) in five rounds.

Over six rounds, Jasmine Hampton (2-0, 2 KOs) was a fifth-round stoppage winner against Agustina Vazquez (6-7-2, 1 KO) in their light flyweight contest, and welterweight prospect, Lance Smith (6-0, 5 KOs) stopped Jorge Omar Pacheco (2-2-2, 2 KOs) in three rounds.

In the four-rounders on the bill, Jaquan McElroy (5-0, 2 KOs) outscored Andre Johnson (2-5-1, 2 KOs) at super welterweight, and Sardius Simmons (7-0, 3 KOs) did the same at heavyweight against Dylan Potter (2-3-1).
