The WrestleMania 42 main event may be locked in, but CM Punk’s road to Roman Reigns is getting a major detour—and the spoiler plans for WWE Elimination Chamber just leaked.
According to Wrestlevotes Radio via Fightful Select, WWE is working on a World Heavyweight Championship match between CM Punk and Finn Balor for the upcoming Elimination Chamber premium live event. Despite Balor already losing a title match to Punk on January 19, creative plans reportedly have him circling back into the title picture ahead of WrestleMania.
The move would serve multiple purposes. Not only does it keep Punk active before his clash with Reigns on wrestling’s biggest stage—it also gives him a homecoming moment. It was noted that WWE has always planned for Punk to wrestle at Elimination Chamber given that the event will take place in his hometown of Chicago.
One pitch would see Punk accept the rematch after competing in Europe—near Balor’s home turf—as part of a geographical back-and-forth narrative. While nothing has been officially announced, the backstage talk points clearly to the WWE World Title being defended at the Chamber.
Finn Balor hasn’t been seen since his loss to Punk, but WWE hasn’t written him off either. If this plays out, it puts him right back in the spotlight—despite Reigns already being locked in as Punk’s WrestleMania opponent.
With Punk now fully leaning into mind games against Roman Reigns, he may have one last physical test to pass first—and Finn Balor could be the perfect spoiler before Mania.
Should CM Punk be risking the title this close to WrestleMania? Or is this the perfect setup to fuel the fire heading into the main event? Drop your thoughts in the comments.
