Coach ‘Kab’ Layne passes on

One of Barbados’ most beloved football coaches has completed his earthly tenure and is now coaching in paradise.

The island’s football community is mourning the loss of Kenville “Kab” Layne, esteemed head coach of Paradise FC and a former national team head coach, who passed away on Wednesday night at the age of 58 after a brief illness.

Layne was respected for his dedication to the game and ability to inspire players both on and off the field, especially during his 30 plus years at the Christ Church club and for the past 25 years as a coach with the National Sports Council (NSC).

A product of Lead Vale, Christ Church and a past student of St Patrick’s Primary School, Layne developed a passion for football at a tender age and soon began to hone his skills with Paradise, first as a competent centre back and then as their beloved head coach, with his last honour being the Barbados Football Association’s (BFA) Knockout Cup in 2018.
