Coco Gauff survived a scare against Elisabetta Cocciaretto to continue her run at the Miami Open.
The American lost the opening set in her first match at the Masters event, but fought back to confirm the match in a decider.
Gauff is fighting through injury in Miami as she is desperate to win one of her home tournaments for the first time.
The world number four’s latest win saw her equal a record set by Caroline Wozniacki at WTA 1000 tournaments.
Coco Gauff hits 103 victories at WTA 1000 events
Gauff’s hard-fought victory against Cocciaretto earned the star the American the 103rd WTA 1000 victory of her career.
The American has levelled Wozniacki’s record at Masters events before turning 23, according to statisticians OptaAce.
Gauff is now second in the standings, with Martina Hingis on top with 154 victories before she turned 23-years-old.
The American recently turned 22, so she has an entire year to try and catch Hingis’ exceptionally strong record.
While it is very unlikely she can win another 51 times, it’s testament to Gauff’s incredible career that she has put herself in the conversation.
Gauff has another nine Masters events to try and beat Hingis’ record, including her current run at the Miami Open.
Coco Gauff’s Miami Open draw is now wide open
There have already been several upsets in Gauff’s section of the draw and she will now be considered a heavy favourite to at least make the quarter-finals.
Two seeds, Maria Sakkari and Linda Noskova, dropped out at the second round stage after suffering defeats to Alycia Parks and Sorana Cirstea, respectively.
Gauff will now play Parks in the third round, a player she knocked out of the Australian Open earlier this year.
Should she beat Parks again, Gauff will play the winner of Cirstea and Elise Mertens, the latter of which is the only other seed left in the section.
Gauff has never lost to Mertens in her career, defeating her in five straight matches since their first meeting in 2021.
