Cody Rhodes’ Stardust Gimmick Was Loved By A Top WWE Name

WWE executive Bruce Prichard has explained why he was a big fan of Cody Rhodes’ former Stardust gimmick.

On the Something to Wrestle podcast, Bruce Prichard was asked about how WWE talent, including Cody Rhodes, can leave the company, reinvent themselves elsewhere, and return as bigger stars. The conversation led directly to Rhodes’ run as Stardust.

“I don’t know [that] he’s treated any differently. I think that he had gone out and proven what he could do, and it was, I think Cody was, I wasn’t here for a lot of that. I was here for the very beginning of it.”

When the discussion shifted specifically to Stardust, Prichard made his feelings clear.

“But again, I love Stardust. Yeah, yeah. I thought that Stardust showed a whole other side of Cody’s personality. Again, going away to learn a new hold, by God, is a good thing sometimes. And you go away and establish yourself somewhere else it’s like, yeah, go make yourself more valuable.”

In 2016, he famously bet on himself by leaving WWE. Outside WWE, he reinvented his career, becoming one of the biggest names in independent wrestling. Rhodes also became one of the founding figures of AEW.

When Rhodes eventually returned to WWE in 2022, he came back as a completely established main-event star. Since then, he has become the face of the company, headlined WrestleMania in back-to-back years, and emerged as the company’s clear QB1.
