Columbus Aviators head coach Ted Ginn Jr. was released from jail Saturday evening after being arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated earlier that day in Tarrant County, Texas.

Ginn, who turned 41 on Sunday, was booked into the county jail Saturday around 3:3o p.m. CT, according to a Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson. He was released on bond at 8 p.m. Saturday, the spokesperson said.

Ginn was set to coach the Aviators’ United Football League game against the Dallas Renegades Sunday in Frisco, Texas, at noon ET. Instead, Aviators offensive coordinator Todd Haley will assume head-coaching duties, according to a statement from the UFL, obtained by The Athletic.

“We are aware of an incident involving Head Coach Ted Ginn Jr. over the weekend and are in the process of gathering more information,” UFL President and CEO Russ Brandon said. “Offensive Coordinator Todd Haley will handle the head coaching duties for the Aviators game on Sunday.”

The Aviators named Ginn as head coach in December 2025. The former wide receiver spent 14 years in the NFL, playing for the Miami Dolphins, San Francisco 49ers, Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals, New Orleans Saints and Chicago Bears before retiring after the 2020 season. The ninth pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, Ginn was a second-team All-American at Ohio State and is the Big Ten’s career leader in punt return touchdowns with six.
