ROCKINGHAM, N.C. — Open-wheel racing graduate Corey Day won the pole for Saturday’s North Carolina Education Lottery 250 NASCAR O’Reilly Series race at Rockingham Speedway during qualifying on Friday afternoon.
Driving the No. 17 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, Day turned a best lap of 22.717 seconds at 148.963 mph to earn the first pole of his 19-race career in the series.
Day, 20, will share the pole with reigning series champion Jesse Love, who qualified second in the Richard Childress Racing No. 2 Chevrolet.
Chevrolets swept the top five with Parker Retzlaff third and JR Motorsports teammates Justin Allgaier and Carson Kvapil fourth and fifth, respectively.
Allgaier has won three of the past four O’Reilly Series races.
