Cornforth is island’s SuperVet – Table Tennis England

There were some terrific matches in this year’s Isle of Wight SuperVets event – Over 60s handicapped tournament.

The semi-final line up may have been a bit of a surprise – not people who have dominated the tournament in the past, but that’s the great thing about handicapped events, they are very unpredictable.

The semis saw John Cornforth playing Rob Smith and Guy Golbourn playing Bryce Wilson. The latter semi went to five sets with Bryce just edging it.

In the final Bryce played Cornforth, who beat Rob 3-1 in the other semi. There was some great play in the final with Bryce consistently returning John’s smashes. In the end it was John’s consistency that prevailed in a thrilling five-setter.

John is a popular figure and a former chairman of the Isle of Wight Table Tennis Association – congratulations to John on this victory.
