The Cowboys may have their eyes on another blockbuster trade after missing out on Maxx Crosby.

The Dallas Cowboys were unsuccessful in their push to strike a blockbuster trade for Maxx Crosby, but the team may already have a new plan in place. Dallas is being linked to a new potential trade for a former Pro Bowler.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler linked the Cowboys to trade talks for Minnesota Vikings linebacker Jonathan Greenard. All indications are Dallas balked at the Las Vegas Raiders‘ asking price of two first-round picks for Crosby, a price that the Baltimore Ravens were willing to pay.

“They have to pivot. They were devastated they did not land Max Crosby,” Fowler explained in a March 8, 2026, episode of “SportsCenter.” “They just had limits as far as to how (much) they would (give up) with the draft picks. But if they want to stick with the trade theme, Minnesota’s Jonathan Grenard could make some sense for a day-two pick. A high day-two pick is what Minnesota is looking for. He also needs a new contract.

“He has two years left on his current deal at around $38 million in total. So he would want to re-up. Teams are grappling with whether that’s worth it or not. But certainly there are several (teams) that have checked in on that. I believe Dallas is one of them, but they’re also gonna have some options in free agency.”

Here’s what you need to know about the latest Cowboys rumors.

Cowboys Trade Target Jonathan Greenard Is Pushing for a New Contract Despite Having a $76 Million Deal

Fowler indicates that the Cowboys could land Greenard for a mid-round pick. Dallas would need to be prepared to sign the defender to a new contract extension, per Fowler.

Greenard’s four-year, $76 million contract is slated to go through the 2027 season, but the defender is pushing for a new deal. Whether the Cowboys ultimately land Greenard, what is becoming abundantly clear is that Dallas has multiple options, even with Crosby off the board.

Cowboys Rumors: Dallas Is Being Linked to Trey Hendrickson & Jaelan Phillips After Missing Out on Maxx Crosby

Cincinnati Bengals star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson continues to be floated as a potential option for Dallas. Unlike Crosby, Hendrickson is a free agent, meaning the Cowboys would not have to give up assets to land the defender.

“Dallas must now pivot to free agency to land its pass rusher,” Fowler wrote in a March 8, story titled, “NFL free agency buzz: Latest on WRs, RBs on the move.”

“It has monitored Trey Hendrickson dating back to the trade deadline. He’s now a free agent. Jaelan Phillips, Odafe Oweh and Boye Mafe will be firmly on Dallas’ radar in the coming days.”

Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Teased a Potential Trade

Dallas is hoping that the change at defensive coordinator can give the team a boost on the field as Christian Park takes over the unit. Back in February, owner Jerry Jones teased a potential trade.

“I don’t know that I’d expect it but we have the ammunition to be good at it,” Jones noted, per ESPN’s Todd Archer. “And I wouldn’t hesitate to be good at it if it will help our team and help the timeline that we’re talking about.”
