Coxy raises stem cell awareness

In a week’s time, Graham Cox is participating in the London Winter Run, hoping to raise awareness for the Anthony Nolan stem cell register. Read more about why this cause is so close to Coxy’s heart, from the man himself.

“I will be participating in the London Winter Run on Sunday 15th February to raise awareness for the ‘Try for Ellis’ campaign.

“Try for Ellis was set up to look for a stem cell donor for Ellis Joseph, a rugby player who made over 100 National League appearances for Old Redcliffians, and who was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia in 2024. A stem cell transplant could have saved Ellis but, due to his mixed heritage, a suitable donor couldn’t be found, and he died last year at the age of 27.

“I was twice Ellis’ age when I was diagnosed with AML, but I had a successful transplant and am still here. I am very lucky.

“Try for Ellis still works to encourage those between the age of 16-30 to join the stem cell register, as well as raising funds for Anthony Nolan.

“I’m very honoured to have the support of both Old Redcliffians RFC and Ellis’ family, and I’ll be proudly sporting one of the specially designed charity playing shirts that Old Reds have kindly donated for me to participate in.

“If you are aged between 16-30 please click on the above link and join the stem cell register. It’s easy, and just might be the most rewarding thing you ever do.

“You are, of course, most welcome to make a donation.

Thank you”

We wish Coxy the very best of luck with his run, and we hope that, after reading this article, the Anthony Nolan stem cell register will include a few more names.
