Cricket Victoria has announced its participation in the inaugural Global Super League (GSL) T20 competition, set to take place from November 26 to December 7, 2024, in Guyana. This new tournament brings together teams from prestigious leagues worldwide, including the Guyana Amazon Warriors from the Caribbean Premier League, Lahore Qalandars from Pakistan’s PSL, Hampshire CCC from England’s County Cricket, and Rangpur Riders from the Bangladesh Premier League.
Cricket Victoria CEO Nick Cummins expressed enthusiasm for the competition, highlighting its value for players looking to sharpen their skills against top international opponents. “The GSL is an exciting opportunity for players across our network to gain valuable experience against high-quality teams,” Cummins remarked.
The GSL provides a platform for Cricket Victoria to expand its international presence, building on its existing collaboration with the San Francisco Unicorns. Notably, up to six players from the Unicorns, recent runners-up in MLC02, will join the Victorian squad for the competition, adding further depth and diversity to the team.
Cricket Victoria in Global Super League to feature BBL and Victorian players
The Cricket Victoria squad will feature a blend of Big Bash League (BBL) talent, emerging Victorian players, and members from the San Francisco Unicorns. Leading the team will be Corey Anderson, the Unicorns’ captain, with additional key players like Netherlands captain Scott Edwards, Melbourne Renegades batter Jon Wells, and England and Melbourne Stars player Joe Clarke.
Wade Seccombe, current T20 Performance Manager for the Melbourne Renegades and championship-winning coach of Brisbane Heat in BBL|13, will guide the squad as head coach. His extensive experience in T20 strategy is expected to be a significant asset to the team.
Cricket Victoria’s GSL campaign will kick off on November 29 with a high-stakes match against the Guyana Amazon Warriors at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence. This tournament represents a new chapter for Cricket Victoria as it joins the global T20 stage, aiming to make a strong impact in the Caribbean۔
