Cricket South Africa (CSA) acknowledges receiving a letter from British Member of Parliament Lord Peter Hain urging South Africa to boycott its upcoming fixture against Afghanistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to be held in Pakistan in February.
CSA shares deep concern over the treatment and suppression of women’s rights in Afghanistan and firmly believes in the importance of equal recognition and resources for women’s cricket. CSA has a strong track record in promoting women’s cricket in South Africa.
Given that the Champions Trophy is an ICC event, CSA will adhere to the global cricket body’s directives concerning Afghanistan’s participation, ensuring compliance with international tournament guidelines.
CSA President Rihan Richards stated:
“We are of the view that a more unified and collective approach from all ICC members will be more impactful.”
CSA remains committed to engaging in constructive dialogue with the ICC and other member nations to advocate for the advancement of women’s cricket in Afghanistan and to influence meaningful change.
