Dhoni is expected to call CSK owner N Srinivasan in the coming days.
In a major development coming in ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) retention deadline on October 31, former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni’s participation has been guaranteed for the next season.
The news was confirmed by CSK franchise CEO Kasi Viswanathan earlier today (October 26).
Kasi told Cricbuzz, “When he is ready, what else (do) we want. We are happy”.
The development comes after Dhoni broke his silence about his participation by saying,
“I just want to enjoy whatever last few years of cricket I am able to play”.
Although it’s all but done, an official confirmation will only happen once a conversation takes place between CSK owner N Srinivasan and Dhoni, who is expected to return to Ranchi from Goa within the next few days.
Kasi also confirmed that Dhoni will call Srinivasan in the coming days to finalise the list of players to be retained.
CSK probable retained players list for IPL 2025
It has been understood that Dhoni will be retained under the uncapped player quota for INR 4 crore. This will impact CSK’s auction strategy heavily as only a fraction of their INR 120 crore budget will be used to retain an icon player.
On the other hand, premier all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will be the No. 1 retention for CSK.
Jadeja will be followed by team skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad. Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana, who is essentially a CSK product will be the No. 3 retention, with his manager finalising the deal in Chennai last week.

With a total of six retentions allowed and only two spots remaining, it is expected to be taken by any two among Shivam Dube, Devon Conway, and uncapped player Sameer Rizvi.
