Dana White has responded to Khamzat Chimaev pushing for a fight with UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Alex Pereira.
Chimaev is the current middleweight titleholder. He captured the gold thanks to a suffocating performance against Dricus du Plessis back in Aug. 2025. “Borz” hasn’t fought since the championship win, but he’s displayed more interest in a 205-pound bout than a 185-pound title defense.
During the UFC Houston post-fight press conference, White was asked about what he prefers Chimaev to do next. The UFC boss doesn’t want to Chimaev to jump the gun (via MMAJunkie).
“I’d like to see him defend his title at a weight first,” White said. “I’d like to see him defend his title before he talks about jumping around. You’re going to keep going up in weight divisions without defending? I’d rather see him defend.”
UFC Houston’s main event this past Saturday saw Sean Strickland turn in a thrilling third-round TKO finish over Anthony Hernandez. After the fight, Strickland insulted Chimaev and questioned the middleweight champion’s inactivity. Chimaev responded on social media by hurling an expletive at Strickland.
Many agree that a title fight between Chimaev and Strickland would be the most lucrative middleweight fight UFC can book. Most thought Nassourdine Imavov would be next in line for a shot at the 185-pound gold, but Strickland’s scintillating win over “Fluffy” might be enough to seal it.
Chimaev is undefeated in his pro MMA career, and many are wondering if anyone will be able to thwart his wrestling enough to hand him a defeat anytime soon. Strickland believes he can give “Borz” the most difficulty. BJPenn.com will keep you posted with the latest fight updates on Chimaev.
